The 16th summit of Iran’s Assembly of Experts of the Leadership started in the capital, Tehran, with the country’s senior officials in attendance.

The two-day event opened in Tehran on Tuesday with a speech by Acting Chairman of the Assembly of Experts Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi.

Chairman of the Assembly of Experts Ayatollah Mohammad-Reza Mahdavi Kani had a hard attack in June and has been hospitalized since then.

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani and Chairman of the Expediency Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani are among the participants of the meeting.

Secretary of Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution Mohammad-Reza Mokhber Dezfouli and Iranˈs Quds Force Commander Major General Qasem Soleimani are also scheduled to address the meeting.

At the end of the two-day meeting, the participants will pay a courtesy call on the leader of Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. They will also pay tribute to the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Imam Khomeini, at his mausoleum.
