Speaking to reporters in St. Petersburg, Larijani streesed he had held talks with Russian officials about the US “troublesome measures” on the JCPOA, the nuclear agreement between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).
The US’s unilateral actions have infuriated all parties, the Iranian speaker added, slamming Washington’s policy toward the JCPOA as a disdain for all of the efforts the parties involved in the nuclear talks made to achieve the nuclear deal.
His comments came after US President Donald Trump in a major confrontational stance against Iran refused to certify the JCPOA on Friday and imposed further sanctions against the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).
Trump’s move has drawn widespread international criticism. European Union Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini has announced that the JCPOA is “working”, stressing that the United States cannot unilaterally cancel the international agreement.
Following Trump’s speech, the leaders of Britain, France and Germany also issued a joint statement, expressing concern over “the possible implications" of Washington’s decision.
