The event will showcase more than 250 objects from different historical periods of the Latin American country, including the Maya and Inca civilizations.

The artifacts, which have been previously exhibited in Europe, will go on display in the Iranian capital for four months.

The event, due early next year, will be the first exhibition showcasing historical objects from a foreign country in Iran.

Mexico hosted a similar exhibition on the history and civilization of Iran back in 2007. Mexico City’s major museums showcased a series of artifacts dating to the prehistoric times to the Qajar era.

The National Museum of Iran is one of the most distinguished museums in the world. It is the biggest archaeological museum in Iran and therefore called Iran’s Mother Museum.

The complex houses some 300,000 artifacts in two buildings - the Museum of Ancient Persia and the Museum of the Islamic Era.

Visitors can see ancient and medieval Iranian antiquities, including pottery vessels, metal objects, textile remains, rare books and coins.
