Iranian people are vigilant, well-informed

The Iranian people, despite all the massive propaganda, have demonstrated that they are quite vigilant and well-informed about what is going on in the country, says Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani.

"The most recent evidence showing public awareness in Iran, is the big turnout in the (February) elections," the head of the Expediency Council told a group of political activists.

"The expectations and demands of the people, in case they are aware and well-informed, are going to increase based on reason and logic," Rafsanjani said.

"The officials and especially the government are responsible to meet these public demands and expectations made out of awareness," he said.

The senior cleric went on to stress, "All the official organizations, institutions and bodies, should advance the public and national interests and stop hostilities and unnecessary criticisms."

According to IRNA, Rafsanjani called on politicians to exercise fairness and friendliness.

"Problems and shortcomings should be addressed by offering fair and friendly criticisms," he concluded.
