Al Azhar demanded an end to Muslim killings

Grand Sheikh of Al Azhar stressed necessity of proximity among Muslims and demanded leaders of different Islamic denominations to issue a joint statement banning followers to kill their peers from other denominations.

Sheikh Ahmad al Tayyeb, top Egyptian mufti, in an interview with Kuwaiti paper called Sunni and Shia scholars to issue a joint fatwa (religious statement) and ban homicide among Shia and Sunni communities, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
 
He urged for an end to fratricide among Muslims and killing of murders in the world of Islam and reiterated proximity of Islamic schools of thought saying,” Al Azhar has constantly called for proximity among Shia and Sunni communities and the achievement is quite important for the Egyptian university.”
 
He added,” Here I ask senior Sunni and Shia leaders to attend a joint meeting in Al Azhar and issue a fatwa banning Muslim killing among different Islamic denominations so that puts an end to the massacre in the region and the world of Islam is saved from intrigues hatched by enemies.”
 
Top Egyptian figure noted,” We should not value plotters among Shia and Sunni Muslims because unfortunately these people are media activists and work according to a certain agenda which targets Muslim unity while we demand proximity among all Muslims from different Islamic schools of thought.”
