Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani has defended the performance of the Iranian nuclear negotiating team in its talks with the P5+1 countries over Tehran’s nuclear program, saying the negotiators have great capabilities.

“The negotiating team moves within the framework of the Islamic establishment’s opinions and red lines and knows how to speak and is moving in the right path,” Rouhani said in a meeting with officials of Iran’s Interior Ministry, governors general and governors in Tehran on Saturday.
He added that Iranian authorities must speak with the nation with honesty and asked rhetorically, “Who has the right to talk to the diplomacy czar in an impolite tone? Where did that impoliteness come from?”
Rouhani’s remarks came as the Iranian foreign minister, accompanied by Abbas Araqchi, a senior member of the nuclear negotiating team, attended a Majlis closed-door session on May 24 to brief the lawmakers on the latest developments in nuclear talks with the P5+1 countries.
At the end of the two-hour session, a video was leaked showing a lawmaker strongly criticizing Zarif and the nuclear negotiators in a loud and angry tone.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Rouhani called for respect for all Iranians, particularly those who are serving the nation.
The president added that he would explain all “difficulties and problems” in the nuclear negotiations with the P5+1 countries to the Iranian nation at the end of the talks.
He said diplomatic negotiations with major world powers are sometimes more difficult, complicated and stressful than operations in the war field because any possible failure in this battle would lead to lasting regret.
“Although we have not achieved a final success in the nuclear negotiations yet, we have taken major steps,” Rouhani pointed out.
He emphasized that Iran seeks to prove that “contrary to ill-wishers’ claims, Iran's nuclear activities are peaceful and in the interests of regional nations.”
Iran intends to ensure that its nuclear program would never harm anybody, the president added.
The Iranian nation has the power and capability to defend its rights in negotiations with the biggest world powers and lift cruel sanctions against the country, Rouhani said, adding, “We should move in this path with unity and solidarity.”
Iran and the P5+1 countries – the US, France, Britain, China and Russia plus Germany -- are engaged in talks over writing the text of a final agreement over Tehran's nuclear program. Representatives from the two sides wrapped up their latest round of talks in the Austrian capital of Vienna on Friday.
The two sides have set July 30 as the deadline for a final deal.
