“Churches and Synagogues, inseparable parts of Islamic cities”

Senior Lebanese cleric stressed necessity of protecting churches and synagogues against terrorist attacks.
“Churches and Synagogues, inseparable parts of Islamic cities”
Sheikh Maher Hamoud, head of the Union of Resistance Scholars, attended a meeting on solidarity with Egyptian Christians held following the terrorist attack against Alexandria and Tanta Coptic churches highlighting importance of churches and synagogues as inseparable part of Islamic history, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

He said,” Jihad (struggle in the path of God Almighty), in Islam, is partly to protect worshipping houses and God Almighty has set that as a mission for the people to protect these places.”

The Sunni cleric referred to the history of different Islamic cities and hailed synagogues and churches as an indivisible part of background in these cities.

Sheikh Maher Hamoud stressed,” Islam supports all worshipping houses and respects their freedom and what Takfiri (excommunication) groups commit in Egypt and other countries does not belong to Islam at all.”

He referred to archbishop of Sidon back in 18th century who was welcomed by the people the reconstruction of a mosque and hailed his move as a wise measure even in critical times of the history.

Head of the Society of Resistance Scholars criticized the US and Zionist support for terrorist groups and said,” All capabilities in the Islamic nation should be solidified and negotiation is the means for that.”

He expressed his solidarity with the Egyptian nation and said,” Christians in Egypt are parts of the history and have always defended this country.”
