Iranian political analyst:

“Assad should stay redline for political sides in Astana”

Political expert on Middle East affairs stressed the view of Iran on necessity of pulling out terrorist groups from Syria as the guarantee for prevalence of sustained peace in the war-torn country.
“Assad should stay redline for political sides in Astana”
Hassan Hanizadeh, Iranian political expert on Middle East, in an interview with Taqrib News Agency (TNA) referred to the key role of Turkey in combination of the political parties to attend Astana talks stressing that the array of terrorist groups in the upcoming negotiations is by Recep Tayyip Erdogan government due to the influence of the Turkish President on these groups.

He said,” Naturally, there are serious disagreements among anti-Assad opposition groups and many of the figures, among Assad opposites, have detached these groups growing tendencies for the government even announcing their disavowal of the opposite groups and that is a proof for the deep gap between Saudi-affiliated opposition and those against Turkish government.”

” ISIL and Al Nusra front have been excepted from the participants in Astana talks and that reveals first disagreements in the field and second disbelief of ISIL and Al Nusra to negotiations” Hanizadeh noted and added,” Besides, the more political outcomes these talks expand, the less influence they will have on the situation in the field and the military chess of Syria; hence, we should wait for the outcomes of Astana talks, which seem to be far away from a satisfactory result.”

Iranian expert on the Middle East affairs related on the change in Turkey stances regarding Syria crisis and its cooperation with Russia in Astana talks saying,” Liberation of Aleppo and the security situation in Turkey has pushed the country to accept the ceasefire which is proof for Turkey’s command over terrorist groups though Erdogan government does not seem to be able to manage the talks due to the disagreement between Turkey, Russia, Iran and the Syrian government.”

Hassan Hanizadeh also referred to the role of Iran in Astana talks and said,” Since the beginning Iran has known the secret talks for prevalence of peace between Turkey and Russia and proposed its six-article plan for that because Islamic Republic of Iran believes that first Bashar al-Assad should remain the redline for all political parties second, all terrorist groups should withdraw from Syria because prevalence of sustained ceasefire is impossible without clearing the country from terrorists.”
