IRGC sets up organization for smart combat vessels
A high-ranking Iranian military official says the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has created an organization for its smart combat vessels to counter any enemy aggression.

“The US and its allies’ enmity toward the Islamic Revolution is not hypothetical, but rather it is a tangible animosity whose physical manifestation will be in the sea,” Commander of the IRGC Navy Admiral Ali Fadavi said at Sharif University of Technology in Tehran on Tuesday.

He added, “They [the United States] are a sea-based military force, and the Persian Gulf is the only part of the world for which Americans use the phrase ‘vital national security interests.’ It is the phrase that they only use for their homeland and the Persian Gulf.”

Fadavi further noted that the need for confronting US naval forces prompted the IRGC to start building smart vessels several years ago, and set up the Organization of Smart Combat Vessels.

On December 2, 2013, Fadavi said the IRGC Navy has developed tactics and strategies to be fully prepared for difficult missions.

“In light of the development in defense tactics and strategies, we have reached a considerable level of preparedness, more than any other time, to accomplish hard missions,” he said.

Fadavi underlined that the IRGC Navy’s brave, powerful, and imposing presence in Iran's territorial waters has instilled such fear among its enemies that they have forsaken thoughts of any adventure, confrontation or aggression against the country.

In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in the defense sector and gained self-sufficiency in the production of essential military hardware and defense systems.

Tehran has repeatedly assured other nations that its military might poses no threat to other countries, saying that the Islamic Republic’s defense doctrine is entirely based on deterrence.
