Prominent Syrian scholar stressed interfaith dialogue, coexistence and fraternity and censured any mosque or church which might act as a hub of intrigues.

Sheikh Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun, top Syrian scholar, attended a meeting of Christians and Muslim scholars urging all for a review of interfaith dialogue, affection, fraternity and coexistence in line with confronting intrigues, division and protecting the country, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
 
He referred to disagreements as a common issue and stressed,” Diversity of religions, ethnicities and denominations is determination of God Almighty so that people arrive a solidarity through struggles” adding,” To spread humanity is the utmost mission man is appointed for.”
 
Sheikh Hassoun noted,” Ka’aba (praying direction of Muslims) and Bethlehem are spots for worshipping God Almighty; therefore, we are not allowed to count particular people as subject for our worship.”
 
He referred to the high status of man and said,” Ka’aba and mosques can be reconstructed after destruction but he who destroys humanity has in fact destroyed a sacred foundation” and added,” Unfortunately some people recognize nations or movements based on religions and not their true belief. These are the people who respect Qur’an, Bible and Torah but are ignorant to the objective of these holy books.”
 
The Sunni scholar added,” People should struggle in line with honor and happiness of others because it is not Islam or Christianity but true belief of the people which is the basis for a status in heaven.
 
“Any mosque or church which disperses people should be destroyed” said the scholar highlighting importance of solidarity among followers of different religions.
