Cardinal Tauran:

"Current wars with political rather than religious nature."

Head of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue highlighted that there is no religious war in the world rather all battles have political inspirations.
"Current wars with political rather than religious nature."

Cardinal Jean-Louis Pierre Tauran, head of the Pontifical Council in the Vatican, referred to the role of religions in outbreak of the current wars across the globe saying that all clashes have political rather than religious inspirations, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

He said the present world cannot be understood without religion and this is a big paradox for man.

When asked on the reason why all religions are present in the war fronts, he said," It is not the religions rather their followers who are involved in the wars."

Answering a question on some laic governments which underestimate the identity of religion as a means to prevent wars, he said," No because in an interfaith dialogue the first thing which has to be stressed is the identity and knowing the beliefs and basic values which lead one's life. As a result, there can be no dialogue between religions based on confusion; therefore, we have to know the real nature and content of our religion."

He elaborated on the image of extremist Islam from religion and said," Basically extremist Islam is not the true Islam. It is a deviate version of this holy religion." And added," There are deviate groups which are backed by some anti-democracy powers but act under the name of Islam."
