"Islamic unity disappoints enemies."

Ashraf Fahmi, Al Azhar University professor, in an interview with Iranian Fars News Agency, highlighted the call by Sheikh Ahmad Al Tayyeb, top Sunni Mufti for more solidarity among Muslims demanding for commitment of Shia Sunni Muslims to stay responsible in regards to the Islamic nation, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

Calling Muslims from different denominations to solve their disagreements, Egyptian academician noted," Realization of unity in the Islamic community will lead to the victory of the world of Islam and failure of the enemies who are in constant pursuit of fueling the intrigues amongst Muslim groups."

He referred to the recent measure by Al Azhar top scholar to reject Shia Muslims being called as Rafida noting that as a positive step for boosting Islamic solidarity.

On the ways for more unity among Shia and Sunni Muslims he said," Shia and Sunni Muslims share commonalities on the major beliefs; hence, they should ignore the minor differences and voice their mutual respect."  and called for more meetings between the leaders of both Islamic schools of thought.

Previously Sheikh Ahmad al Tayyeb, in his speech for the fasting month of Ramadan aired on Egypt state television, announced his opposition with disrespect to companions of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) saying," There are a group of prejudiced Sunni Muslims who bring tension among Muslims by excommunicating Shia Muslims or calling them as Rafida (rejecters)."

Grand Sheikh of Al Azhar has also stressed his pursuit of unifying the Islamic nation rather than dividing it saying," Al Azhar has never followed ways to divide Muslims."
