Islamic society should not rely on arrogance: Ayat. Araki

The first commemoration ceremony for the martyrdom anniversary of Nimr Baqir al-Nimr, Shia cleric, was held in Iran’s Qom with Secretary General of the World Forum for Proximity of the Islamic Schools of Thought in attendance, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

Addressing the ceremony held in commemoration of martyrdom anniversary of Sheikh Nimr Baqir al-Nimr, Secretary General of the World Forum for Proximity of the Islamic Schools of Thought Ayatollah Mohsen Araki demanded Muslim nations to stand on their own feet and not rely on arrogant powers.

The President of Iran top unity body hailed prominent Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr for his great attempts against tyrannical regime urging Muslims to follow his path.

Ayatollah Araki underscored, based on Quran teachings, people in countries of Bahrain, Yemen, Saudi Arabia and other areas are in fight with oppression and tyrants.

According to the Secretary General of the World Forum for Proximity of the Islamic Schools of Thought, the final triumph belongs to oppressed people. And in doing to, patience is the first condition should be met by believers.

"Arrogant powers think with intensifying pressure on revolutionary people, the annulment of their birth certificate, martyring, torturing and capturing them, they can consolidate their power," highlighted the seasoned cleric.

"While based on the teachings of the Holy Quran, the final triumph will go to those taking their steps in the right way," pointed out the Secretary General of the World Forum for Proximity of the Islamic Schools of Thought.

The ceremony to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Saudi Shia cleric, Nimr Baqir al-Nimr was hold in Qom’s grand mosque on Sunday night, January 1st.

Nimr Baqir al-Nimr, commonly referred to as Sheikh Nimr, was a Shia Sheikh in al-Awamiyah in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province whose arrest and execution created diplomatic tensions.

Sheikh Nimr, a critic of the Riyadh regime, was shot by Saudi police and arrested in 2012 in Qatif, which was the scene of peaceful anti-regime demonstrations at the time.

He was charged with instigating unrest and undermining the kingdom’s security, making anti-government speeches and defending political prisoners. He had rejected all the charges as baseless

In 2014, a Saudi court sentenced Nimr to death, provoking widespread global condemnations. The sentence was upheld last March by the appeal court of Saudi Arabia.
