Iran slams Israeli strike on Syria

Iran’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned Israel’s recent military strikes near Damascus international airport, saying such recurring attacks are meant to support Takfiri terrorist groups fighting against the Syrian government.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi on Friday slammed the Tel Aviv regime’s military attack on Syria as a blatant violation of a UN member’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, an attempt to weaken Syria’s legitimate government, and a move against world peace and security.

Such aggressive offensives are part of attempts to strengthen the Takfiri-Zionist terrorists who have been pushed on the brink of destruction in the battlefield, Qassemi deplored.

He further called on the international community, the UN in particular, to react to such acts of invasion that upset regional and international stability and security.

Early on Thursday, Israeli strikes hit an arms depot near Damascus airport. Witnesses said a total of five strikes occurred near the airport road, about 25km from the capital Damascus.

Syrian state TV quoted a military source saying rockets fired from Israeli territory targeted a military area in the southwestern part of the airport which caused explosions.

Israeli attacks against Syria and violation of the Arab country’s airspace are not new.
In March, the Israeli army announced that its aircraft had carried out several strikes inside Syria.

And in February, it was reported that Israeli military aircraft conducted an airstrike on the Syrian government forces stationed in the western countryside of Damascus near the Lebanese border.

Syria says Israel and its Western and regional allies are aiding Takfiri militant groups operating inside the Arab country. Moreover, the Syrian army has repeatedly seized huge quantities of Israeli-made weapons and advanced military equipment from the foreign-backed militants inside Syria.
