An Iranian official says negotiations between Tehran and the P5+1 group over Iran’s nuclear energy program are tough, but moving forward.

“Negotiations are in a path that we can say they are [being conducted] with difficulty, but moving forward,” spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Behrouz Kamalvandi told IRNA on Saturday.
He pointed to the latest report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) about Tehran’s nuclear activities and added that Iran is pursuing two parallel tasks simultaneously regarding its cooperation with the IAEA and talks with the P5+1 group.
Tehran has always cooperated with the IAEA and fulfilled its commitments, Kamalvandi emphasized.
“Iran expects that the opposite side will also carry out its undertakings and duties in accordance with the agreements,” the AEOI spokesman pointed out.
In its monthly report released on Thursday, the IAEA said Iran is complying with the terms of an interim nuclear agreement struck between the Islamic Republic and six world powers late last year.
According to the IAEA report, Tehran has diluted half of its uranium earlier enriched to the 20-percent purity to a lower grade in order to power reactors.
Iran and the six world powers – the United States, France, Britain, Russia, China and Germany – sealed an interim deal in Geneva on November 24, 2013 to pave the way for the full resolution of the decade-old dispute with Iran over the country’s nuclear energy program. The deal came into force on January 20.
Under the Geneva deal, dubbed the Joint Plan of Action, the six countries have undertaken to provide Iran with some sanctions relief in exchange for the Islamic Republic agreeing to limit certain aspects of its nuclear activities during a six-month period. /SR
