Syria army thwarts Takfiri attack in villages near Idlib
Syrian army forces have reportedly foiled an infiltration attempt by Takfiri terrorist groups in the country’s northwest, killing and wounding a number of militants.

According to reports, the Syrian army managed to repel an offensive by the Takfiri groups to capture al-Fo’aa and Kafrayya villages on the outskirts of the northwestern Syrian city of Idlib on Thursday.

“Units of Army and Armed Forces eliminated members of a terrorist group in the area surrounding Kafarya village in Idlib countryside,” Syria’s official news agency SANA quoted a military source as saying.

Reports also said a number of Takfiri terrorist groups, including al-Nusra Front, Ahrar al-Sham, Jaish al-Islam, Islamic Front and Sham Front, took part in the abortive operation.

On Wednesday, the Syrian army continued its advance in the country’s northwest in an attempt to take back the towns of Nubel and al-Zahra from Takfiri terrorists.

Two weeks ago, the terrorists launched another attack to seize al-Fo’aa, but they failed to capture the village.

Syria has been grappling with a deadly crisis since March 2011. The violence fuelled by Takfiri groups has so far claimed the lives of over 210,000 people, according to reports. New figures show that over 76,000 people, including thousands of children, lost their lives in Syria last year.

Over 3.8 million Syrians have left their country since the beginning of the crisis. More than 7.2 million Syrians have also become internally displaced, according to the UN.

The Takfiri terrorist groups, with members from several Western countries, controls swathes of land in Syria and Iraq, and has been carrying out horrific acts of violence such as public decapitations and crucifixions against all communities such as Shias, Sunnis, Kurds and Christians.
