Three Turkish soldiers injured in PKK attack

At least three Turkish troops have been injured in a Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) rocket attack in the country’s eastern province of Agri, officials say.

"Security forces were patrolling the Dogubayazit-Gurbulak Highway near Karaburun village when their armored vehicle was fired upon by members of the terrorist PKK at around 10.30 a.m. (0730GMT)," said a statement released by the Agri governor's office late on Wednesday.

The injured soldiers, none of whom in a critical condition, were hospitalized following the incident, read the statement.

Also on Wednesday, a Turkish soldier was injured during a firefight with unidentified assailants in the eastern province of Erzurum.

Turkey has recently launched airstrikes against purported positions held by ISIL Takfiri militants in Syria as well as PKK positions in Iraq, after a recent deadly bomb attack  claimed by ISIL left 32 people dead in the Turkish southwestern town of Suruç, across the border from the Syrian Kurdish town of Kobani.

The PKK, which seeks to gain self-rule, has been engaged in militancy in southeastern Turkey for decades.
A shaky ceasefire that had stood since 2013 was declared as null by the PKK following the Turkish airstrikes against the group last week, narrowing chances of the two sides reaching a deal in the near future.

Turkey’s new approach toward ISIL militants comes as Ankara is considered to be one of the main supporters of the foreign-backed militants fighting to topple the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad since 2011.
