Yaum al-Abbas or Day of Abbas is a mourning ceremony traditionally marked in Iran’s southern city of Ahwaz. This is concurrent on seventh day of Muharram, when Shia Muslims mark the martyrdom anniversary of Hazrat Abbas, half-brother to Imam Hussein (AS), the third Shia Imam and grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) who was martyred together with 72 of his companions in the Battle of Karbala back in 680 AD.
