UN Special Rapporteur calls for imposing financial and economic sanctions on Israel
The UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food, Michael Fakhri, called for pressure from all members in the corridors of the United Nations and the General Assembly to impose sanctions on the Israeli occupation government and isolate it completely, unless it stops the genocide against the Palestinian people.
He said, "The American veto prevents the Security Council from taking action against Israel, and therefore no step has been taken to stop the genocide against the Palestinians. He added, "Political hope now rests on the UN General Assembly, which passed an important resolution affirming what was stated in the legal opinion of the International Court of Justice that the Israeli occupation is illegitimate and illegal."
He added, "Citizens are being killed in the Gaza Strip and children are dying of hunger in front of the world, and some Western countries are cooperating with the US administration in watching what is happening in Palestine without moving a finger, and therefore there is a racist regime that surpasses the humanity that the Palestinian people need."
The UN rapporteur pointed out that the United States and some Western countries give Israel political cover and provide it with all support despite the worsening situation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, explaining that Israel seeks to annex all Palestinian land by committing the most heinous crimes and practicing genocide against them.
He pointed out that the United Nations organizations have not been harmed and damaged in any conflict in the world as they were in the Gaza Strip, as the Israeli attacks included UNRWA employees to limit its continuation.
He affirmed that for the first time in modern history, a state is practicing starvation war as Israel is practicing against citizens in Gaza, referring to a report he prepared and submitted to the United Nations about Israel starving citizens in the Gaza Strip by closing all crossings in the Strip and obstructing the entry of humanitarian aid.
He stressed the falsity of the allegations made by the occupation government to prevent food and medicine trucks from entering the Gaza Strip, stressing that they are merely false allegations and flimsy pretexts to deny the citizens' right to bring food and medicine to them.
He said: "Israel is trying to prevent the entry of water into the Gaza Strip and justifies this using the language of war that confirms that everything in the Strip has become targeted by the occupation government," indicating that the Israeli regime constitutes a case of violation of the rights of the Palestinian people and international law.
He said, "We are in contact with American officials," and said, "They do not listen to us, although they are aware of the reality of what is happening in the Gaza Strip, but we cannot pin any hopes on these officials who have not changed their position on the war."
He said, "Israel began creating famine in the Gaza Strip by destroying the food system first, before preventing the entry of food aid trucks and attacking fishermen, shepherds and farmers," indicating that the food system in the Strip has been suffering from crises for decades."
