The limited role of international powers in addressing more than a year of Israeli genocide in Gaza highlights the need for universal justice, as growing global protests challenge the status quo and demand accountability for mass atrocities and criminal acts.
Ezani Bin Yaakub is currently an Associate professor and Deputy Dean for Research and Industrial Linkage, Academy of Contemporary Islamic Studies (ACIS), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Selangor, Malaysia.
Ezani, in an interview with Taqrib News Agency (TNA), believes that until now the role of international powers in dealing with the ongoing massacre of civilians in Gaza and the atrocities across the Middle East has been minimal. This includes the role of powers from the west and also among Islamic countries except Yemen, Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah and Iran.
The Deputy Dean of ACIS thinks all governments should contribute to the ongoing conflict between the Israeli regime and Palestine based on the principle of universal justice, ensuring that the Palestinian land is returned to its people.
He called for some limitations to be defined regarding the veto power of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and said,” The aggressor should be punished according to existing laws without exception. the veto power of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) should be banned when it involves mass killings and atrocities.”
He added,” This kind of illegal aggression and settlement expansion clearly contradicts the laws of all world countries.”
The Malaysia professor also hailed the global pro-Palestine rallies and said that people from a number of countries, even governments who are staunch allies of the Israeli regime, have taken effective actions including protests.
