Casualties are feared after foreign-backed militants in Syria carried out a car bomb attack in the country's central city of Hama.

The booby-trapped car went off on Monday near a cultural center in the city, the state-run SANA news agency reported.

It added that the Syrian army has taken full control of the al-Eyn farmlands. Syria’s deadly unrest broke out in March 20-11. So far, tens of thousands have been killed. Millions others displaced.

Anti-Syria Takfiri extremists have been behind many of the deadly bombings targeting both civilians and government institutions across the Arab state since the outbreak of the violence.

Turmoil has gripped Syria for over two years, and many people, including large numbers of Syrian soldiers and security personnel, have been killed in the foreign-sponsored militancy.

On June 22, foreign ministers of the countries supporting the extremists in Syria, including Egypt, France, Germany, Italy, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and the United States, agreed to provide them with more weapons.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday that the US spy agency CIA has begun transferring weapons to Jordan in an attempt to arm Takfiri militants fighting against the Syrian government.
