"The system has been developed based on physiology of these animals and does not hit the creatures unlike other similar devices working with electromagnetic waves, smoke, chemicals and high current power," Masoumeh Khoftan Panah, the lead author of the project told ISNA, adding official tallies by Iranian Health Ministry suggest there are 36,000 cases of scorpion stings in Iran annually.

She noted the device can be utilized in rural and strategic sites, including jungles, forests and deserts, and added that the system is made up of two parts, one is a pad equipped with a special voltage which prevents entry of poisonous reptiles to the intended areas. The second one is made up of some bases which prevent these animals from entering beds, desks and chairs.
