Iran marks national Nuclear Day

10 Apr 2011 - 8:48

Iran begins the ceremony marking the National Nuclear Technology Day as President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad hails the country's peaceful nuclear achievements.

Addressing the participants of the ceremony on Saturday, Ahmadinejad said Iran's achievements in nuclear technology show “the Iranian nation cannot be defeated” in the face of threats and sanctions, a Press TV correspondent reported.

“Trust in God and unprecedented unity among the Iranian nation is the key to our achievements,” he said, stressing that the “enemies” cannot deprive Iran from its “dignity, independence and self reliance.”

“Not only should we be able to use all our capacities and potentials in nuclear technology, we should also export the nuclear know-how,” Ahmadinejad said.

Ahmadinejad criticized the Western countries for their “double standards” regarding Iran's nuclear program.

He said the West is pressuring Iran and making “baseless claims” against its nuclear program which is “under full supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency.”

Fereydoun Abbasi, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) will also deliver a speech during the April 9 ceremony.

The official ceremony at the AEOI is attended by senior Iranian officials.

Ahmadinejad unveiled the new generation of nuclear centrifuges made in Iran during last year's annual ceremony.

Earlier Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said the reloading of fuel had begun in the Bushehr nuclear power plant and that it would resume work in early May.

On October 26, Iran started loading fuel into the core of the Bushehr nuclear power plant in the initial phase of its launch. However, engineers began removing the fuel rods in late February for safety reasons.
