US President Donald Trump has predicted that the US economy will see “tremendous surge” following the end of coronavirus pandemic.
Trump made the comment during a Monday press conference, further admitting that the American economy “may be” sliding into recession.
"I think there's a tremendous pent up demand both in terms of the stock market and in terms of the economy,” he said. “Once this goes away, once it goes through and we’re done with it, I think you’re going to see a tremendous surge.”
The US president added that the covid-19 outbreak could continue up to summer.
“I don’t, number one, determine recession,” Trump said. “I just say this: We have an invisible enemy. We have a problem that, a month ago, nobody ever thought about.”
The US has declared a state of emergency amid rising anxieties over the fast-moving coronavirus.
Senate Democratic leader Charles Schumer is preparing to propose at least $750 billion to tackle the outbreak.
