Sunni representative of Sistan and Baluchistan in Iran’s Assembly of Experts condemned western media over a record of desecrating Islamic sanctities under the pretext of freedom of expression.
Molavi Nazir Ahmad Salami, representative of the Sunni community in Assembly of Experts expressed regret over reprinting of sacrilegious cartoon in the French weekly, Charlie Hebdo, that hurt the heart of millions of Muslims across the globe, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
He slammed Charlie Hebdo for its background of disrespecting Islamic sanctities in 2005 and 2015 and stressed,” Western media have a long record of desecrating sanctities under the pretext of freedom of expression while they should be asked if desecration of more than 1.5 billion Muslims can be called freedom of expression.”
Iranian Sunni scholar stressed that freedom of expression does not necessarily permit anybody to disrespect ideas or sanctities of other people.
He referred to extremist people in early days of Islam who tried to tarnish the image of Prophet Mohammad both during the lifetime and after demise of the holy prophet as their contemporary peers and Zionist-backed media try to provoke Muslims with such caricatures rejected by all religions and faiths.
He called on Muslims across the globe to stand against assault by French weekly noting that “Had Muslims taken certain stance against previous insults, these behaviors should not have been repeated.”
Molavi Salami also called on the international organizations to prevent such heinous moves and justification of such assaults under the pretext of freedom of expression.
