Iraqi ministers approved committee to announce Samarra as the capital of Islamic civilization in the country.
Committee chaired by governor of Saladin province will announce Samarra as the capital of Islamic civilization, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
Samarra in Saladin province is located 125 kilometers north of the capital Baghdad which was also the capital of Abbasid government after Baghdad.
The committee includes a representative from the al-Askari Shrine, deputy of the judiciary and a representative from cultural heritage as well as a representative from the University of Samarra.
Samarra is a key city among the Shia and a major religious city in Iraq where the holy shrine of two Shia Imams and the Jameh Mosque of Samarra.
