Uzbek President has signed new bill to officially lift ban on Islamic Hijab and other religious clothing in public places in the country.
Shovkat Mirziyoyev, Uzbekistan President has signed the new version of law on freedom of thoughts and religious organizations as part of efforts to guarantee the freedom for all people, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
According to the new legislation religious attire is excluded from other bans on clothing codes in public.
The new legislation demands at least 50 citizens over 18 years of age to sign a request letter for establishment of a religious organization.
It also permits the Uzbek citizens to continue their religious education at the end of guidance and high school courses.
The religious clothing ban was introduced in Uzbekistan in 1998.
On September 15, 2020, Uzbek lawmakers passed the first reading of legislation that would, end a ban on the wearing of religious clothing in government offices and educational centers.
