Bodies of four Afghan women found in Mazar-i-Sharif

7 Nov 2021 - 15:25

Four Afghan women including a rights activist were killed in the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif despite pledges by Taliban to protect security following their takeover of the country.

Qari Sayed Khosti, the Taliban government's interior ministry spokesman, said the bodies of the women were found at a house and one of the bodies was identified as a rights activist.

Two suspects have already been arrested confessing that the women were invited to the house by them.

Taliban spokesman said the women were not identified but AFP announced one of the women was Frozan Safi, a university lecturer and women's rights activist.

The source also said that the women had received a call which they thought was an invitation to join an evacuation flight and picked up by a vehicle before their dead body was found.

Another source told a similar story on receiving a call from someone pretending to help her flee Afghanistan adding that the caller had all necessary information about her.

The caller had pretended to be an official from her office in charge of facilitating her evacuation from Afghanistan who was later blocked by her though she had been living in fear ever since.
