The United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has added the 1050th birth anniversary of Iranian polymath, Abu Rayhan Biruni to its list of anniversaries and commemorations to be marked in 2022-2023.
Islamic Republic of Iran in association with the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan will mark the 1050th birth anniversary of the scientist Abu Tayhan Birouni (973-1050), reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
During the 41st session of the General Conference of UNESCO, in accordance with the recommendations of the Executive Board of UNESCO held on November 11, 2021 the joint nomination of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran on the 1050th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding scholar of the East Abu Rayhan Biruni was included into the List of anniversaries celebrated in association with UNESCO in 2022-2023.
An astronomer, historian, botanist, pharmacologist, geologist, poet, philosopher, mathematician, geographer and a humanist, Abu Rayhan Birouni was a prominent eastern polymath.
Despite the political upheavals which interrupted his work, his sheer output was prodigious. He had a scientific spirit in the full sense of the term and displayed a spirit of understanding and respect for other cultures remarkable for his time.
