Iranians every year celebrate the national Father’s Day on the auspicious birth anniversary of the first Imam of Shia Muslims, Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS).
Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS) was born on the thirteenth of Rajab, 23 years before Prophet Muhammad’s Hijrah (migration).
He was martyred on the 21st of Ramadan in the year 40 AH in Iraq’s Kufa at the age of 63.
Imam Ali was born in the great Kaaba; he is the cousin and successor of the Holy Prophet of Islam Muhammad ibn Abdullah (PBUH), the second infallible after Prophet Muhammad, the first Imam of the Shia Muslims, the dear husband of Fatimah bint Muhammad, and the father of the Infallible Imams.
Shia Muslims in Iran and other parts of the world are marking the birth anniversary of Imam Ali, the first Shia Imam. Imam Ali is considered by Shias as the symbol of justice and bravery. In Iran, his birthday is also celebrated as Father’s Day.
