Al-Azhar grand mufti has issued a statement to denounce the Russia-Ukraine conflict calling on the warring sides to follow rationality.
Sheikh Ahmad al-Tayyeb, in his statement, released in Arabic and English, noted that conflicts are settled merely through dialogue urging Russian and Ukrainian leaders to follow peaceful means rather than military action, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
Top scholar warned of military confrontation and noted wars will only lead to more destruction.
Sheikh Ahmad al-Tayyeb called on the world leaders and international organizations to support an end to conflict between Russia and Ukraine and to settle their issues through peaceful means.
Other prominent figures, elites and religious leaders from across the globe have also called for an end to conflict and urged to settle the issues between the two countries through diplomatic ways.
Russian President Vladimir Putin had authorized military attack against Ukraine on Thursday stressing that Moscow aimed at disarming the country and not occupying Ukrainian territories.
Tens of thousands of people have fled Ukraine since the beginning of attacks seeking refuge in the neighboring countries since the beginning of attacks.
