Quoting a verse from the holy Qur'an the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) Secretary General expressed congratulations on arrival of the fasting month of Ramadan.
Antonio Guterres in his video message called Ramadan the month of kindness, ponder and learning and an opportunity to meet and transcending each other.
Head of the UN referred to his trips to Muslim countries during the holy month of Ramadan and fasting in solidarity with Muslims.
Guterres expressed regret that the pandemic infection halted his tradition of meeting, fasting and having Iftar meals with Muslims and that he is satisfied to be able to resume the tradition this year.
He also expressed sympathy with those affected with war, displacement and fear.
Secretary General of the UN quoted verse 13 of Sura Hujurat reading," O mankind! We created you from a single [pair] of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other [not that ye may despise [each other]. Verily the most honored of you in the sight of Allah is [he who is] the most righteous of you. And Allah has full knowledge and is well acquainted [with all things]."
Antonio Guterres concluded his message congratulated world Muslims on the holy month of Ramadan calling all people to learn from each other and create a peaceful world for all."
Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic lunar calendar as Muslims abstain from eating and drinking from dawn to dusk spending more time on prayers, Qur'an recitation.
Having family Iftars and doing charity work are among other traditions during the holy month of Ramadan.
