Taghribnews (TNA) - Moscow, Tehran to transfer 10 million tons of Russian transit goods

The deputy transport minister of Iran's road and urban development said that the Islamic Republic of Iran and Russia have agreed on the details of the transfer of 10 million tons of Russian transit goods through the North-South Corridor routes.

Shahriar Afandizadeh, Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development, on Monday said on Iran's state Television, that the route of exchange of goods between Iran and Russia is through the Caspian Sea and through the railway networks, so if the railway networks of Iran develops, the transit of goods through Iran will definitely increase in the near future.

Afandizadeh stated: "Iran's total transit last year was 11.5 million tons, and with the addition of 10 million tons of goods transit from Russia, a good position will be created for Iran in goods transit, which should be used optimally."

The deputy transport minister of Iran's road and urban development also said: "It was decided that the contract for electrification of the train from Incheh Borun to Garmsar will be implemented with the cooperation of Russia by 2022."
Afandizadeh also said about the importance of completing the Rasht-Astara railway:
"If this rail network is completed, Bandar Abbas in the Persian Gulf will be connected to the Republic of Azerbaijan and Russia as the main port of Iran, and later the southern ports of Iran will be able to be connected to Europe through Russia."
Incheh Borun is a city in Gonbad-e Qabus County, Golestan Province, Iran.
