The holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS), third Shia Imam and his half-brother Hazrat Abolfazl (AS) in Karbala are preparing to welcome guests arriving for the annual mourning ceremonies of Muharram.
Preparations are made for pilgrims arriving in the holy city of Karbala to mark the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS) and Muharram mourning ceremonies, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
Tight security measures will be taken to guarantee the safety of the cities and people arriving from different countries arriving in the city for annual Tasua and Ashura mourning ceremonies.
Millions of pilgrims from across the globe arrive in Iraq to attend the ceremonies held in the first ten days of Muharram.
This is while the first ten days of Muharram will be immediately followed by preparations made for millions of pilgrims arriving in the great march of Arba’een which marks the 40th day after martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions.
The route for the great march of Arba’een begins in the southernmost point of Iraq gradually increasing during the path as people from different Iraqi cities and also pilgrims from across the globe join the multi-million march towards the holy city of Karbala.
Also, a number of other Iraqi people and foreign pilgrims set off for the pilgrimage from the capital Baghdad.
Tasua and Ashura are two landmarks in history of Shia when the third Shia Imam, his half-brother and 72 of his companions were martyred in the Battle of Karbala fighting the tyrant ruler of the time Yazid ibn Muawiyah back in 680 AD.
