No step taken by Europe to lift sanctions, Tehran says

3 Aug 2022 - 17:45

The Secretary of Iran's High Council for Human Rights stated that the role of the Europeans in the sanctions should not be ignored, and they have not taken the smallest step to lift the sanctions in the past years.

After the withdrawal of the United States from the JCPOA and the imposition of sanctions against Iran, the Europeans promised to stay committed to the JCPOA and fully support this multilateral agreement, but they did not implement any of them.

Kazem Gharibabadi, Secretary of Iran's High Council for Human Rights, pointed out that Iran has 25,000 victims of terrorism and added that this is despite the fact that the cruelest sanctions have been imposed by the American regime against the Iranian people.

Gharibabadi also referred to the report of Ms. Alena Douhan, the UN Special Rapporteur on the Islamic Republic of Iran, and said that Douhan has an important sentence that she also expressed in her report and press conference, which is that "Sanctions have affected all dimensions of human rights of Iranian people".
At a press conference held at Iran’s National Library on May 18, 2022, Alena Douhan underlined that the complex set of unilateral sanctions against Iran, coupled with secondary sanctions against third-parties, overcompliance and zero-risking policies by businesses and financial institutions, exacerbate existing humanitarian and economic challenges and negatively affect the lives of the people, in particular the most vulnerable.
The Special Rapporteur will present a final report to the Human Rights Council in September 2022.

The senior Iranian official regarding the case of "Hamid Nouri", an Iranian citizen tried in Sweden, stated that this case is a massive violation of human rights and is completely political, which has no basis.

Gharibabadi emphasized that Sweden has an international responsibility in this regard and added that many measures have been taken in the legal, judicial, political and diplomatic fields at different levels.

On November 9, 2019, Iranian citizen "Hamid Nouri" was arrested by the Sweden's security forces upon his arrival in order to resolve his adopted daughter's family disputes, and he has been in prison for about 32 months.

Nouri has been accused by the Swedish prosecutor's office of being involved in the alleged incidents related to 34 years ago in Iran, and the plaintiffs in this case are mostly members of the terrorist outfit of the MKO.

The Swedish court sentenced Nouri to life imprisonment on July 14, based on the accusations of the terrorist outfit of the MKO.
