Iran-Iraq FMs discuss bilateral, regional developments

During the telephone call between Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, some bilateral, regional and international issues were discussed.


In this call, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran also followed up on the fate of an Iranian compatriot who was arrested in Saudi Arabia during Hajj and requested to convey a message for his release.
 
Amir-Abdollahian referred to the fire in the reed areas of southern Iraq, which occurred due to the extreme heat and drought in the region, and emphasized: “Unfortunately, the smoke caused by the reed fires in Iraq has seriously affected the residential areas of Azadegan plain in Khuzestan province.”
 
He added: “The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready for joint assistance to immediately control this fire.”
 
Fuad Hussein, the Iraqi Foreign Minister, announced the readiness and agreement of the Iraqi government for the joint action of the two countries in controlling the fires of reeds located in the Iraqi lands, according to the coordination of the border commissioners.
 
Iran's foreign minister also called for the reopening of the Kileh Sardasht border for the movement of the people of the region.
 
The Iraqi Foreign Minister stressed on the issue of opening the passenger border of Kileh.
 
In this call, the FMs discussed the latest status of the ongoing negotiations in Vienna.
