Iran reacts to PGCC statement

9 Sep 2022 - 18:59

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani has rejected the baseless claims made in a statement issued at the end of the 153rd meeting of the foreign ministers of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council(PGCC) and reiterated that the three Iranian islands of Abu Musa, Greater Tunb, and Lesser Tunb are an integral and inseparable part of Iranian territory.

The spokesman emphasized that the Islamic Republic believes that regional frameworks without the presence of foreigners are the best way to solve problems, strengthen and deepen relations between neighbors, and ensure stability and common security in the region.

Kanaani welcomed the return of the ambassadors of Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates to Tehran and the continuation of talks with Saudi Arabia and said that the Islamic Republic, as in the past, is aware of the need to adopt a cooperation-oriented approach by all countries in the region to achieve security, stability, and peace.

Calling some countries in the region to reform their contradictory behavior, he added: The Islamic Republic considers interaction and cooperation with its neighbors to be the best way to solve regional problems and welcomes positive and constructive initiatives in the development of bilateral and regional relations.
