Several rockets have reportedly hit a military base housing US forces in the Syrian northeastern province of Hasakah early on Sunday.
Several rockets were fired at the US military base in al-Shaddadi town, which lies on the southern outskirts of the provincial capital city of Hasakah, early on Sunday, Sabereen News, a Telegram news channel associated with Iraqi anti-terror Popular Mobilization Units – better known by the Arabic name Hashd al-Sha’abi – reported.
The report added it was not quickly confirmed whether the projectiles inflicted any casualties or material damage. It was not immediately clear where the rockets were fired from.
The sources added that the explosions were followed by an intense flight of US military aircraft over the area.
Earlier this month, Syria's official SANA news agency reported that several explosions were heard at a military base housing US occupation forces near al-Omar oil field in the country’s eastern province of Dayr al-Zawr.
The United States has reportedly dispatched two separate convoys of trucks, carrying arms, logistic supplies and military vehicles to Syria’s northeastern province of Hasakah from Iraq.
Local media outlets reported that the US military convoys entered the oil-rich province from Iraqi territories to reinforce military bases run by the US forces there.
The reports added that the first convoy consisted of 50 vehicles, and was carrying cement blocks, prefabricated walls, security booths and Panzer armored vehicles. It headed towards the American bases located in the vicinity of al-Omar oil field.
The second convoy, also including of 50 trucks, was carrying military equipment and armored vehicles, and entered Tell Beydar base in the north of Hasaka city.
The US military has for long stationed its forces and equipment in northeastern Syria, with the Pentagon claiming that the deployment is aimed at preventing the oilfields in the area from falling into the hands of Daesh terrorists.
Damascus, however, maintains the deployment is meant to plunder the country’s natural resources. Former US president Donald Trump admitted several times that American forces were in the Arab country for its oil wealth.
In August, Zhao Lijian, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesman denounced the illegal presence of US military forces in Syria, saying Washington’s continued looting of the war-torn country’s energy and mineral resources has only exacerbated the suffering of the Syrian people.
Russia’s Defense Ministry has warned that US-sponsored Takfiri militants are planning to stage a false-flag attack against civilians in the strategic al-Tanf region, which lies near the borders of Iraq and Jordan, to implicate Syrian government forces.
The Russian Reconciliation Center for Syria has received information that members of the so-called Maghawir al-Thawra terrorist outfit are preparing to launch an attack in order to accuse Syrian army troops of indiscriminate strikes on civilian infrastructure and residential areas, Deputy head of the center, Major General Oleg Yegorov, said.
In June, Lebanon's Arabic-language al-Mayadeen television news network reported that attempts were underway in order to expand the presence of Washington-allied Takfiri terrorists in southeastern Syria, and deploy them in areas where American occupation forces are located in northeastern Syria.
The report added that the activities were ongoing amid reports that the US military was trying to increase the presence of Maghawir al-Thawra terrorists and other allied Takfiris, and dispatch them to areas in the northern and eastern parts of Syria which are under the control of the militants from the Kurdish-led and so-called Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
