Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has hailed a resolution by the UN General Assembly that affirms the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.
Hisham Qasem, member of the Hamas politburo abroad lauded the recent resolution in continuation of a previous one which also affirmed the rights of Palestinian people for self-determination.
“This resolution is a continuation of previous ones adopted recently that affirm such right and the subsequent UN and international obligations to put an end to the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territory and grant the Palestinian people their rights guaranteed by all international conventions,” he said.
Qasem explained that the overwhelming voting in favor of the UN resolution reflects an “increasing conviction” within the international community that it is time to grant the Palestinians their right to self-determination, end the Israeli occupation, and prosecute this settler-colonial occupation for its heinous crimes committed against the Palestinian people over the past seven decades.
He urged the states that voted against the resolution or abstained to reconsider their positions.
