Amnesty slams Israeli ban on Palestinian flag hoisted in public

Amnesty International has condemned a recent order by Israel which bans Palestinian flag hoisted in public calling on the far-right Israeli minister Itmar Ben-Gvir to retract from the order.
The organization warned on Tuesday that these orders "pose a clear violation of Articles 2, 7, 19 and 20 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and United Nations charters."
Spokesman of Amnesty International Rami Haider stated that the ban imposed by the Israeli new government on raising the Palestinian flags violates human rights and United Nation’s charters.
Rami Haider added that this expected step comes to obliterate the identity of the Palestinian people and prevents them from expressing their nationalism.
“This step cannot be viewed in isolation from Israel’s series of measures to legalize racism,” Haider said. He also added that the ban poses a violation of freedom of expression.
Last Sunday, the newly appointed Israeli far-right minister Itamar Ben Gvir, known for extremism, ordered to enforce the ban on raising Palestinian flags in public spaces.
A recent survey conducted by Amnesty earlier in 2022 revealed that incitement against the Palestinian flag by Israeli governments over the past years has managed to instill fear in the hearts of most Jews upon seeing it.
The survey pointed out that up to 80% of Palestinians who wave flags intend to express their nationalism or protest against racism.
