In a joint statement issued at the end of the international webinar held by Turkey, Muslim leaders and religious figures from across the globe slammed desecration of holy Qur’an in Sweden and the Netherlands.
Attending a virtual meeting held by Turkey’s Directorate of Religious Affairs, 130 Muslim leaders and elites from 69 countries across the globe issued a statement to denounce the unrelenting insults against Islamic sanctities in some European countries, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
Participants in this webinar particularly condemned desecration of holy Qur’an by far-right activists carried out with the green light from the authorities and warned against the repercussions of such misbehavior.
Ali Erbas, the host and president of the Directorate of Religious Affairs, noted Swedish government inaction towards the heinous crime against holy Qur’an and said,” The shameful measure has hurt millions of Muslims worldwide.”
He said,” Hostility to holy Qur’an translates to hostility with humanity since the holy book of Islam is the greatest treasure and blessing revealed for the entire human beings.”
Hujjat-ul-Islam Hamid Shahriari, Secretary General of World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, representing Islamic Republic of Iran in this meeting, said the cultural invasion against the world of Islam began with the military attacks on Islamic countries.
He referred to constant defiling of al-Aqsa Mosque by Zionist regime and Israeli settlers in the occupied lands and also the extremist attacks on mosques and Islamic worshiping sites saying,” Islamophobia has taken a new form of Qur’an burning with official permissions issued by European authorities.”
Secretary General of World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought also condemned endeavors by Zionist lobbies to illustrate a tarnished image of Islam to people in the west and the US as part of plans to promote Islamophobia.
” Desecration of Islamic sanctities is a crime with no proportion with conscience or human rights” said the scholar.
Top cleric denied any relation between the heinous act of Qur’an burning and freedom of expression and continued,” This insult is a violation of freedom of understanding and principles of interfaith dialogue.”
Hujjat-ul-Islam Hamid Shahriari called for resolute stance and practical measures by the international community and world liberal nations in a bid to prevent similar racist and extremist behaviors.
Participants in the international online meeting agreed on a final statement in seven articles following debates on necessary measures to be taken against desecration of holy Qur’an in Sweden and the Netherlands.
