Palestinian prisoners continue sit-in for 9th day

22 Feb 2023 - 12:25

The Palestinian inmates in Israeli prisons have continued sit-in to voice anger at Israeli punitive measures.

The Israeli prison services (IPS) have earlier threatened the Prisoners Supreme Emergency Committee to impose new punishment measures if they continue their protest steps.

In response, the Captive Movement declared a state of alert and mass mobilization.

Earlier this week, the Captive Movement declared a set of protest steps in all Israeli prisons that include a mass disobedience and an open hunger strike next Ramadan.

According to its announcement, the protest steps came in rejection of the Israeli punitive measures imposed against the prisoners since the right-wing minister Itamar Ben-Gvir was sworn in as national security minister in the new Israeli government.

The statement pointed out that the Palestinian prisoners are readying themselves for organized disobedience, which they anticipate will escalate into a full-scale hunger strike.
