A group of Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs are constructing a new mosque in Khanna Khurd village in Punjab District as a symbol of interfaith unity in India.
Hindus and Sikhs have raised funds and also contributed the construction material for building the worshipping site, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
Local residents from all faiths joined the inauguration ceremony.
The endowment board had reportedly allocated the land for building the mosque for the five Muslim families who could not afford funding the project.
Mahendra Singh, a local resident said the Muslims could not afford building the mosque on their own.
He said the first prayer performed in the mosque brought much joy to the Muslim minority in the village.
A Sikh family in Bakhatgarh village in Bernala District also allocated land for construction of a mosque for the 15 Muslim families in the region.
