Massive fire has ripped through the Rohingya refugee camp in southern Bangladesh displacing thousands of people, local police said.
Mohammad Mahfouz Islam, head of the local police said that the fire has spread to 2,000 homes leaving nearly 12,000 people without shelter, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
The fire has reportedly erupted at Camp 11 in Cox’s Bazar where more than one million refugees live.
No casualty has so far been reported and the incident is under investigation.
According to the UN agency for refugees, 90 centers at the camp, including its hospital have burnt down in the incident and the fire has been contained by the volunteer Rohingya refugees at the camp.
The incident marks one of the biggest incidents occurred at the refugee camp in recent years. One million refugees who have fled the brutal crackdown of Myanmar army lived at the camp which was counted one of the world's biggest refugee camps.
