Former mufti of al-Aqsa says Israeli struggles to control holy site doomed to fail

6 Apr 2023 - 22:00

Head of the Higher Islamic Council in Occupied Jerusalem has stressed that Israeli struggles to control the al-Aqsa Mosque are doomed to fail.

Sheikh Sabri, in press remarks on Thursday, said that the Aqsa Mosque is part of the Islamic faith and that the Muslim nation can never cede an iota of its soil.

The Jerusalemite official expressed his belief that the Israeli occupation police assault and suppress Muslim worshipers at the Aqsa Mosque in order to allow Jewish settlers to defile its courtyards without any confrontation.

He stressed the need for the Arab and Muslim nations to realize the importance of protecting the Aqsa Mosque.

On Thursday morning, about 200 settlers desecrated the Aqsa Mosque’s courtyards under tight police protection on the first day of the Hebrew Passover holiday, while some of them provocatively performed Talmudic prayers and toured the Islamic holy site while wearing religious attire.

The Israeli police also expelled many Muslim worshipers from the Mosque in the morning and flew a drone over the holy site in order to secure settlers’ tours of its courtyards.

The police also prevented thousands of Palestinian citizens from entering the Mosque for dawn prayers and later during the settlers’ morning tours.
