120,000 people perform Eid al-Fitr prayer at Al-Aqsa Mosque

21 Apr 2023 - 22:33

A total of 120,000 people today performed the Eid al-Fitr prayer at Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem despite the strict measures taken by the Israeli occupation authorities, according to the Islamic Endowments Department.

Meanwhile, WAFA correspondent reported that the occupation forces assaulted Palestinian youths, beating them with sticks near the Lions’ Gate in occupied Jerusalem, while they were on their way to perform the Eid prayer.
During this month of Ramadan, the mosque compound witnessed successive nightly incursions by the Israeli occupation forces and attacks on worshipers and seclusion in the mosque.
Tuesday, the 4th of April and Wednesday, the 5th of the month, marked the peak of such incursions when the occupation forces raided al-Aqsa mosque and assaulted worshippers in shocking scenes recorded on video and widely shared on social media, generating international condemnation.
The police brutalization of the worshippers was reminiscent to the 2021 Ramadan tensions and May violence over Israeli settler takeover of Palestinian property in Sheikh Jarrah, encroachments upon the mosque compound and settler mob violence, culminating in Israeli onslaught on Gaza and large-scale protests throughout historic Palestine.
For many Palestinians in Jerusalem and across the occupied Palestinian territory, Ramadan is directly connected to the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The Al-Aqsa Mosque compound houses both the Dome of the Rock and Al-Aqsa mosque and is considered the third holiest site in Islam.
Al-Aqsa is located in East Jerusalem, a part of the internationally recognized Palestinian territories that have been occupied by the Israeli military since 1967.
