Iran, Syria stress resolution to implement agreements

Iranian, Syrian foreign ministers stressed resolution to implement the agreements signed during the early May visit by President Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi to Damascus.


In a Saturday telephone conversation, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and his Syrian counterpart Faisal Mekdad hailed President Raeisi’s "successful" visit to Damascus in May.

ِDuring the visit, Raeisi and his Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad signed an agreement on “long-term strategic comprehensive cooperation.”

The two presidents inked 14 other documents in various areas, including trade, oil and energy, engineering, housing, rail and aerial transportation, free trade zones, communications and technology, earthquake reliefs, and facilitation of pilgrimage to the holy sites for the two nations.

In their phone call, Amir-Abdollahian and Mekdad discussed mutual relations and the latest developments in the region.

Mekdad briefed the Iranian foreign minister on the recent improvement of Syria’s ties with the Arab countries and President Assad’s fruitful participation in the most recent summit of the Arab League in Saudi Arabia.

The Iranian foreign minister, for his part, extended his congratulations to his Syrian counterpart on the country's political success and described the recent developments as positive and constructive.
