In response to Ayat. Sistani:

UN condemns Qur’an desecration in Sweden

2 Jul 2023 - 12:32

The United Nations Secretary General has condemned the desecration of Qur’an in Sweden and vowed taking action into the provocative move against the holy book of Islam.

Antonio Guterres in a phone call with Iraqi Foreign Minister, Fuad Hussein, stressed necessity of bilateral cooperation to fight Islamophobia and said he will respond to a letter by top Shia jurist Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Sistani regarding the recent desecration of Qur’an in Stockholm, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

He called for public mobilization for prevalence of security, peace, coexistence and fight against extremism.

Iraqi Foreign Minister also urged for international cooperation to fight against ideologists that lead to desecration or religious sanctities including the holy book of Islam.

He warned that such measures will end in issues among the Islamic and European countries and will fuel Islamophobia, extremism and acts of terror.

Strong condemnations have poured in from across the Arab and Muslim world as a man burned a copy of the Qur’an, Islam’s holy book, in Sweden’s capital during a protest authorized by police as Muslims celebrated the Eid al-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice) holiday.
