Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has issued a resolution following the recent instances of Qur’an desecration in Sweden and Denmark.
The officials issued the resolution at the end of the extraordinary online meeting called by Saudi Arabia in reaction to the recent repeated desecration of holy Qur’an in two Nordic countries, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
The statement aimed to take proportionate measures against attacks, desecration of Islamic sanctities and to prevent similar aggressions that expand humiliation of religions and threaten peace, security and global reconciliation.
The Muslim officials denounced, in strongest terms, the recent cases of Qur’an desecration in Sweden and condemned the states for authorizing the blasphemous acts.
The participants also stressed that the Swedish and Danish officials did not take measures to prevent such moves, in violation of the resolution 2686 by the United Nations Security Council, regarding global reconciliation, peace and security.
Muslim foreign ministers decided that a delegation, headed by the OIC Secretary General, is deployed to the European Union Commission to express the Islamic body’s condemnation of the Qur’an desecration and demand the European organization to take necessary measures in line with preventing such blasphemous acts.
The OIC foreign ministers condemned the repeated desecration of holy Qur’an which has irked more than two billion Muslims across the globe and urged for criminalization of such provocative moves.
They also stressed necessity of respect for religious texts, epitomes and expansion of the culture of peace.
The OIC bureaus in the capitals across the world, particularly the countries where Qur’an desecration was carried out, international organizations, naming the European Union were directed to immediately refer the resolution to the foreign ministries and related organizations in those countries in a bid to detail the repercussions of desecrating holy Qur’an and other Islamic sanctities.
They also called on the New York-based OIC group to take steps for referring the resolution to the related organizations at the United Nations in a bid to issue that as an official document.
The extraordinary meeting of the OIC was held following demands by the members states after repeated gatherings in Sweden and Denmark that desecrated the holy book of Islam.
Muslims across the globe have held protests to denounce the sacrilegious acts and reject the blasphemous move carried out under the pretext of freedom of speech.
