Israeli police gun down Palestinian teenager following “stabbing attack”

31 Aug 2023 - 13:00

Israeli police have gunned down a Palestinian teenage boy over alleged stabbing attack in the occupied city of al-Quds.

Reporting on the Wednesday incident, Palestinian media outlets identified the victim as 15-year-old Khaled Samer al-Za'anin.

The outlets referred to the precise location of the incident as the al-Musrara neighborhood of al-Quds.

Israeli sources claimed that an Israeli settler had been injured in the alleged attack that reportedly preceded the shooting.

"Local sources said that the boy was left bleeding on the ground as no medical aid was allowed to reach him," The Palestine Chronicle reported.

"Just before the shooting, Palestinian eyewitnesses said that the boy was initially attacked by illegal settlers and Israeli police, before an Israeli officer opened fire from a close distance, killing the boy," it said.

The killing was followed by a raid by the Israeli military against Za'anin's house, which was searched by the Israeli forces after the swoop.

The Palestinian resistance movement of Hamas, meanwhile, reacted by calling the alleged al-Quds operation "a natural response" to the Israeli regime’s atrocities.

The Palestinian people will continue resistance against the occupying regime, added the group, which is headquartered in the nearby Tel Aviv-blockaded Palestinian territory of the Gaza Strip.

The regime has intensified its crackdown on Palestinians since the inauguration of its current hard-right cabinet, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

At least 230 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces since the start of the year.
